Storage in a controlled atmosphereIn the early 1980s, ULO/CA fruit storage technology in a controlled atmosphere with ultra-low oxygen content appeared, resulting in a demand for gas-tight doors. Responding to market needs, Salco has developed gas-tight doors for cold rooms with a unique patented inflatable sealing system. The abbreviation ULO stands for Ultra Low Oxygen, which means ultra-low oxygen content, and CA stands for Controlled Atmosphere, a controlled gas environment. With this storage technology, the gas-tight cold room creates an environment with low oxygen content (sometimes less than 1%), high CO2 content and temperature and humidity levels set depending on the product. At the same time, the ripening process is inhibited, which, in turn, increases the shelf life. Controlled atmosphere is used in various areas, for example:

Why Salco Gastight DoorsSalco gastight doors are equipped with a unique inflatable seal that guarantees 100% tightness. This seal consists of two parts - an inner continuous inflatable inner chamber, and an outer protective elastic rubber seal, which, when the chamber is inflated, fits snugly against the floor and the door frame. Thus, a unique sealing around the entire perimeter is achieved, which is unparalleled in the whole world.
Due to air pressure and its own elasticity, the rubber seal tightly adheres to the floor and walls, including in those places where there are irregularities. At the same time, even damage to the floor that occurred during entry and exit is not a problem. An additional degree of reliability and 100% tightness even after many years!
The tightness is created not by pressing the door with great force (which contributes to rapid wear and leakage), but by uniform air pressure in the seal. This eliminates point loading and guarantees gas-tightness over a long period of time. It is not necessary to use Vaseline or sealant to create tightness, even after many years of operation. Thanks to this, the refrigerator compartment can be opened or closed hermetically in a few seconds, and everything will remain clean.
The air pressure level in the inner chamber can be monitored using the integrated pressure gauge. The 100mm thick door leaf is lightweight, as it is produced using high quality seamless polyester in different colors. The design of the door frame and frame, made of anodized aluminum, completely eliminates the occurrence of cold bridges. We offer doors of horizontal, vertical movement and hinged door models.
The horizontal model has an anodized aluminum guide rail system with raise-lower slots for a snug fit and an integrated guard. Doors can be made both with manual control and with electric drive.
The vertical model is ideal in cases where there is not enough space on the side of the compartment or when goods are transported across the entire width of the refrigerator compartment. Due to the fact that the width of the door matches the width of the chamber, goods can be moved in and out easily and efficiently and the entire chamber space can be optimally used. Since the doors are often installed in wet rooms, the vertical guide rails and the tie beam are powder coated in white RAL 9016. The doors can be made with both manual and electric drives.
Especially for export, Salco produces gastight doors in the form of an assembly kit. They are made to your measurements, including or without polyester door panels.

Specially designed for small, narrow chambers with controlled atmosphere, from which a small amount of product is regularly removed. Due to the use of a hinged door, access to products is available across the entire width of the chamber. The door is lightweight, quickly opens and closes and is equipped with a special lifting loop. Thanks to it, when the handle-lever is raised, the door rises up a few millimeters, which prevents wear of the lower sealing gum. The ideal solution for gas-tight chambers for storing berries, cherries and other types of small fruits.
When fruit is stored in low oxygen chambers, visual control and the ability to take fruit samples is an important aspect. For this, Salco supplies gas-tight windows that can be built into both the doors and the walls of the cold store. For installation in the ceiling, we produce special gas-tight viewing windows with safety glass, equipped on the outside with a handle with a cylinder lock. The emergency exit window has a closing mechanism with a padlock on the outside and an emergency opening handle on the inside. Both types of windows are supplied with built-in counter-frames with a maximum thickness of 100mm or 200mm.
